MY PORTFOLIO SITE!!!!

This is my new site showing the best of my work so far as a biomedical art major. Enjoy!

Atherosclerosis Site

From all of the evaluation forms from the class, if I were to change anything about it, I may tame down the intensity of the color. Although, this site is meant to be for younger people, so I am pretty happy with the color. The other issue addressed through the evaluation was that the resolution wasn't great on some of the buttons, this is completely correct. I am looking further into fixing that issue.

With my new site, my portfolio site, I tried to resolve the issues I had with the resolution and color intensity so it is more visitor friendly. Hopefully, I did a good job.

Are You Aware!!??!!

I finally got my website to work on the web! It's amazing how much a person can forget in production about file orginazation! That is something I definitely have to work on in the future!

Hope you enjoy!

Questions about Digital Web Media

1. I am gaining a better understanding and knowledge for how things work when building a website so that when I look at sites on the web now, I disect how they are created so that I know how to get the same look but make it my own.

2. I am interested in learning more about how to change tables once they are in dreamweaver without going back into fireworks and changing a slice. I want to know how to change button rollovers when they are already into dreamweaver.

3. The greatest challenge for me is making my design solid. As a class we kind of rushed past the design process and hopped right into creating a website. I would have liked to have planned things out more precisely so nothing was a question.

4. My success has been creating a website that I am aesthetically happy with now that completely functions.

Inspiring Web Design 2

This is a website of my favorite Medical Illustrator. Her site itself does not inpire me, but the work within the website does. It is of great craft and creates solid emphasis.

Inspiring Web Design 1

This site was very clean. The design was simple, and the colors brilliant. The concept fit the theme of what was supposed to be conveyed.

Hilman Curtis Questions....

1) What does Hillman Curtis mean by using a theme for a website? How can this approach affect how you design the site?
a) I believe that Hilman curtis is saying a theme is the basis of what the websites content is about. It is the reason why you are creating the site, and it consists of the information the viewer is wanted to recieve.

2) The concept is the idea you formulate which illustrates your theme. What advice does Hillman Curtis give on developing a concept?
b) He suggests recognizing themes in your everyday life because if we can recognize themes from things such as movies, art, etc. we can better identify the theme for what work we are trying to create.

3) What does Hilman Curtis mean by Eating the Audience?
c) I think that "Eating the Audience" means that when writing a speech to designing a website, you have to know who that speech or website is for, you need to know your audience. So eating them, consuming them, taking them in, would be to keep them in mind at all times, making sure you are saying what they need to hear and designing what they need to see.

4) When H. Curtis talks about Filtering, what is this, and when does this come into the design process?
d) Filtering is almost like limitations. These limitations then frame the work you produce. In the design process, limitation comes in to play when you think about all the technology that is changing and that hasn't been creating forcing designers down a certain path of media.

5) Justifying: What is this and how can this relate to filtering?
e) Filtering forces the designer to make conscience decisions about everything involved in the design process. As a designer, I therefore must consider every path I can take and make a choice of what path I want to take.

6) Write six sentences about your impression of this article.
f) It was very inspiring to read about how somebody theorizes about how to think about designing; there are always books on how to design something, the concept of design, but I haven't seen much text on what the theme or concept is, and how a designer needs to be aware of them and keep them always in your mind when designing. The process of design has to be organized, well thought out, and well planned. Design is very personal even if the end result if for someone else because of the thought process and concept of the design. I can use a lot of things in this article in my everyday life, including keeping good communication between me and my client, who as of right now, I consider to be my professors. Finding a theme in everything is the key. This article was clear and to the point.

Other Great Sites Other People Chose

iamalwayshungry.com

Brandon S. posted this site as one of his favorites and I definately agree completely with his comments. The overall feel of the site is amazing because of it's graphic elements and the artwork it showcases. The flash work on it makes it more interesting, it brings a better dynamic to it than the general websites made.

nike.com

Kartal P. posted this site. It is commercial, but with all of the flash work in it, it becomes very interactive and interesting. I like the color choices because it makes it appear very classy yet fun.

wikipedia.com

Melissa D. posted this on her site. I also agree with her that it is a very popular site, and a lot of people do go there now instead of google to find definitions. I don't really like the design of the site, it is the source of information that makes it wonderful!

Web Media Design Ex. 1

http://www.hybridmedicalanimation.com/
Overall design and colors are appealing to the eye. Its organization is clear and concise. It is easy to navigate through and to find any needed information. Each animation to view has three ways to download so that it is easier for more people to view.

http://www.coca-colablak.com/index.jsp

Index page starts out with a neat graphic animation making it look like the bubbles of coca-cola are fireworks. When the curser goes over a button there are little animated arrows that point to what you are picking. The voice over and colors fit the product.

This is a website of a past friend of mine who is in Media Studies at CCAD. I really enjoy the intro to this website. I think that it reflects his character and work well. There are a lot of interesting things that happen when you go to choose a category, like the picture changes, and the text of the title of that category drops down and appears. It is also easy to navigate.

1. What did Tim Berners-Lee think the internet would be used for?

It was his dream that the internet would be used as an “interactive sea of shared knowledge.”

2. Who were the first users of the web?

“Physicists and engineers at CERN, the European Particle Physics Laboratory in Geneva, Switzerland” were the first users because they are considered to have used a “home-brew” hypertext that inspired the World Wide Web.

3. What is the role of w3.org?

The role of w3.org is to make sure that all people creating and using things on the web are doing so according to the rules and protocol that has been set up.

4. What is the potential of the internet today?

Internet today still has the potential to grow larger with a lot of quality information for the whole world to share. There will be a greater availability of the web because of the number of available browsers, and new information.

5. Post three quotes you like from the article.

“Let’s think of some large numbers. The number of web documents. The number of people in the world. The number of neurons in the brain. We’re thinking of lots of things all connected together.

“”We know that people’s behaviour is something specially different form the machinations of the computer, or the interactions of identical nameless particles.”

“We are little like physicists tweaking the gas laws, and hoping that tomorrow the atmosphere won’t accidentally condense into a small blob.”
